Zealous

Numbers 25:11
“Pinchas the son of El‘azar, the son of Aharon the cohen, has deflected my anger from the people of Isra’el by being as zealous as I am, so that I didn’t destroy them in my own zeal.

Mark 7:36
Yeshua ordered the people to tell no one; but the more he insisted, the more zealously they spread the news.

Galatians 4:17
True, these teachers are zealous for you, but their motives are not good. They want to separate you from us so that you will become zealous for them.

Galatians 4:18
To be zealous is good, provided always that the cause is good. Indeed, whether I am present with you or not,

As you can see from the verses above. To be zealous is both good and bad. As you see with Pinchas back in numbers he was zealous for Yahweh and stopped Yahweh from destroying the people of Israel in his anger. But, if you look at the teachers in Galatians they were too zealous and made it about themselves. So be careful when being too zealous. Make sure you stay on the right path with your zealousness.

Thanks for reading with me this year ya'll. Be sure to come back and read me next year on the A to Z challenge.

Honor

Exodus 20:12
12 “Honor your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land which Adonai your God is giving you.

Ephesians 6:2-3
2 “Honor your father and mother” — this is the first commandment that embodies a promise — 3 “so that it may go well with you, and you may live long in the Land.”

Isaiah 9:14
The old and the honored are the head, while prophets teaching lies are the tail.
Judges 9:9
But the olive tree replied, ‘Am I supposed to leave my oil, which is used to honor both God and humanity, just to go and hold sway over the trees?’

Judges 13:17
Manoach said to the angel of Adonai, “Tell us your name, so that when your words come true we can honor you.”

Honor is one of the most universal moral there is. At least every culture has one version of a honor and shame society. That's right even third world countries have this moral. Honor and shame are an important thing to every culture. I heard a wonderful teaching at a church conference last summer. The teacher was talking about an honor and shame society in the bible. In the bible people who dishonored and shamed often couldn't go back their old lives. They often couldn't face their own families. You can still see this today in Buddhist, Hindu, and Muslim countries. Often they only the way they can restore their honor is through death.

Thanks for reading with me today ya'll. Shabbat Shalom!
